"And this is who I want to be: a person who cares about the day"
There are times when I go out for a walk, or go into town and pretend its my first time, inviting that beginner's mind attitude to see what might surprise me. This is the kind of caring, or attentiveness, that truly makes a good life. Thank you habibi for the reminder to do it again, I'd forgotten with all that's going on.
I’m leaning into the small moments so much more since I met you and Armando. Your way of noticing the small joy and augmenting it through your noticing is so delightful.
What you describe reminds me of travel, but in traveling we are not settling in. We greet each day, each moment anew. Well, we are acquainting ourselves with a country, a language, a culture. We learn to greet wordlessly without imposing, as a stranger into someone’s space. But we connect to the silent sweetness of another being. The daily life, so similar as all humans eat and sleep and experience the weather, the taste of water, the smell of the air, the color of sky and the feel of sun, the sounds of life, the continuation of evolution. It is a beautiful place tainted with the world of politics and lightened by the world of loving souls who walk among us, smiling gently
Beautiful. I haven’t moved in a very long time, but you describe how I feel when I travel. Now, I do have to look at the news. I do try and read a poem or good piece of writing to steal myself for the news.

Thank YOU Moudi! 🙏🏽 I love the idea of pretending to be a newcomer. Because it’s closer to the truth isn’t it—-we are new every day but we forget.

So true! That same feeling. I am trying to hold onto it even as I acclimate. Or to keep discovering it.

Same! The poems fortify us for the rest.
Lovely essay.
